Yes, it’s another Feline Friday in Kaaawa.

But it’s time for something different, even if not “completely” different.

Today I’m taking you on a trip back in time to our cat household as it was a decade ago, in February 2004.

That’s Ms. Wally, leading the way. She had decided that the best place in the house was the little gap between our computer monitor and the keyboard, and she set up shop there for several days.

Six of our seven cats were already with us back at the beginning of 2004: Kili, Wally, Harry, Duke, Toby, and Silverman, although Silverman was missing from this set of photos. They were all ten years younger than today. Duke had not yet been diagnosed with diabetes. Harriet looks just the same. And Mr. Leo was also still with us then. Did I say we still miss him?

Well…we had noticed a sudden drop-off in Ms. Harry’s appetite. Well, not necessarily her appetite. She appeared to be very interested in food. But she was barely eating anything. Food dish would come, she would seem excited, but then she wouldn’t eat.

After a day or two, it was off to the vet.

And when our vet opened Harriet’s mouth and looked in, ouch! Her tongue was split right up the middle…I’m no longer sure how long the wound was, but it wasn’t just a 1/16″ cut. More damage than that. It looked like she had licked a knife blade straight on. Maybe it was the sharp lid of a can found somewhere, who knows!

Anyway, as I recall, the wound had to be cleaned up, she got a stitch or two, and some pain meds. We tried to joke about her designer forked tongue, but it was a bit too painful to joke about.

So that’s it. We never did find out how or where she got hurt.
