It Friday, the 4th of July.
It’s warm and clear in Kaaawa. When we went walking about 6 a.m., tents were just starting to go up at Swanzy Beach Park. Farther down the beach, a clump of people were after the seasonal appearance of the little silvery oama. More were setting up for day-long picnics along Kaaawa Beach Park.
We saw two houses displaying flags along the interior roads as we walked home. One of those has the flag up all the time, so…there’s not much outward display of that kind of July 4th symbolism.
At home, none of the cats is interested in flags. Well, maybe if they had tassels or toys attached, and waved near the ground. But generally, not so much. Today, they seemed most interested in annoying me. Romeo has been fussing since we got back nearly two hours ago. He wants food. He wants attention. He wants lap. He wants outside. Pace to the door. Yowl. Return to where I’m sitting. Claw at leg. My leg. Repeat.
Harriet has also been fussing. She got some margarine, the first lick of the stuff in several days. She got offered several dishes of food, including some canned food. Then, before I realized what she was doing, she carefully pushed the dish onto the tile floor, sending sharp shards of the former dish flying across the room. I needed a time out, so I put her outside.
Even Duke got into the fussing mode. He was here beside my chair, and every few seconds he would reach up and insert claws into my bare leg. Ouch! I actually am not at all sure what he wanted. I doubt he was, either. He’s been in a funny mood, alternately spending the day hiding under a chair in the living room, and then being super friendly and seeking attention. I’m not sure what is going on there.
Another week, another bunch of Friday Felines.

Last night one of my dearies managed to knock over a two drawer file cabinet that serves as a launch pad to the top of the book cases . It no longer closes. I was so tired from marching in Kailua that I didn’t even wake up til morning.
Gotta love the puds!
