Okay. I agree. I really shouldn’t have done this, much less had a photo taken to memorialize the moment. But it did express how I felt about the White House and its occupant at the time.
I think this must have been taken sometime in the mid-to-late 1980s. I was in Washington quite often during that period, and would have been at odds with the Reagan-Bush administrations on a number of issues. I wish that I could date it with more certainty. Perhaps one day I’ll run into the negative and benefit from additional context, but this was copied from a print that turned up during our recent move.

Disrespectful photo, Ian, even though I had similar feelings about the one who was Prez at that time. Still, that place represents our country and doesn’t deserve this being published.
Let me guess. You were pissed off at Bush 41 for breaking his “read my lips: no new taxes pledge.” You were thinking, “Not a penny more of my money being wasted on Planned Parenthood, Head Start, and food stamps.”

I disagree strongly with Ian posting this and note his reservations. What if someone who disagreed with Obama did this?
Still we ought to defend to the death the right to do this. This is what separates us from tyrants, and makes democracies great.

Ah…my sentiments exactly. The occupants of the White House have been war criminals, without exception, for a number of decades. And that includes the current occupant.
ahh, the erudite Ian. unfortunately that picture can’t be taken today with the added fencing, and you might get whisked away for questioning. the land of the free? not since 9/11. NSA, drones, stingray, secret courts. the 70s look pretty good in comparison.

you have to do it. It really is what America is all about. And if/when we ever lose that spirit or fight this country is f@ct. So express on with no remorse. There is a lot of push back on campuses these days to a diversity of ideas. Progressive students and their organizations don’t really understand the history of free speech movement and the major fights that preceded them. And that is truly a shame. What has the institution of the university, or even the White House, really become? It’s more groomed pc thought than really pushing people to think outside the box and challenge authority. And with too many high priced administrators too boot. I’d think that’s something, given your history, both you and the wife could appreciate.
