Feline Friday: Romeo standing guard

Romeo stands guardWelcome to Feline Friday. The featured photo shows Mr. Romeo looking out one of the windows next to our front door. Now that he has figured out that there’s a world out there, it’s become one of his favorite spots. He also has scoped out window sills in several rooms that offer good vantage points.

And now we have some evidence that he’s on watch for a reason. It was about 4:30 a.m. one morning earlier this week when the sounds of a nearby cat fight (or cat sex?) jolted us out of bed. We were immediately up, turning on lights, and checking to see which of our cats were fighting. But it didn’t take long to count to five and realize that the sounds were coming from outside. We couldn’t see anything from our bedroom window, although it sounded like these cats were in our bedroom. I’m guessing they were just alongside the outside wall, between our house and the next-door neighbors. Eventually I dug out a flashlight and went out to try to find the visiting cats, but no luck. I never caught sight of them.

However, it certainly proved that Romeo has reason to be standing guard. Of course, if he had his way, he would be charging out to chase them out of the territory. It’s hard to explain that those days are over, and the former defender of the yard is now retired from battle by order of, well, us.
