Bob Jones invited a rather eclectic group of friends, along with a sprinkling of family, to celebrate his 80th birthday this week. The assembled revelers filled the front section of Duc’s Bistro on Maunakea Street in Honolulu’s Chinatown, one of Bob’s favorite haunts.
We enjoyed quite a feast, along with fine entertainment, and a few tales told by a few of Bob’s many longtime friends.
I wasn’t the “official” photographer, but I almost always carry a camera at times like this. And, with Bob’s permission, I’m sharing the photos. The dim light and many colorful reflections made it a challenge, you’ll get the general idea.
To see all of my photos from the evening, just click on the picture of Bob and his brother, who flew in from Ohio for the event.

Is this the same brother, Richard (?), who was a member of the old DPED [Planning & Economic Development] planning staff?
This brother had apparently never been to Hawaii before.
Happy birthday/Hau`oli la Hanau! to Bob Jones. He was the host of the state spelling bee on KGMB in 1989 when I was a contestant.
Nice work, Ian! Great that this event could be preserved …
