Celebrating my dad’s birthday

My dad, John Montgomery Lind, was born on December 7, 1913, in Berkeley, California. He died in Honolulu on October 23, 2010.

After Duke Kahanamoku’s death in 1968, my dad bought Duke’s boat, the Nadu K-2, from the estate. He eventually installed two big diesel engines, and I think his favorite place was out on that boat. He often fished over towards Molokai, and at least once took the Nadu K-2 all the way to Kona for the annual billfish tournament. He went on overnight fishing trips up until he was 95, if I’m not mistaken, assisted by a younger crew. When he was in a nursing home suffering from dementia, he recounted the trips he was taking in his mind, which were very real to him.

Anyway, in honor of his birthday, one of his very happy moments.

My dad loved to fish.
