This was our view at breakfast this morning at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. We’re here for just a couple of days. Not work, just an escape to one of our favorite spots.

Right now I’m looking down from our 3rd floor room. There are two herons fishing from the rocks right in front of the hotel. They are large and apparently well fed, and don’t seem overly concerned about a few people who have walked past and pictures of the rather stately birds.

Across Hilo Bay, the rain and clouds have cleared and Mauna Kea is visible again. We’re preparing for a drive up to Volano Village to meet a friend and her dogs. It will hopefully be a lazy day.
