Here’s a clip gleaned from the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s section on the Newspapers.com online archive (subscription required).
My mother made the pages of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin back on January 7, 1947. According to the news story, she confronted a 15-year old burglar as he entered the house through a door from the yard directly in to the shower. I guess that in those days, living near the beach meant you were likely to use this direct way into the house after a swim.
As I recall my mother’s later recounting of the story, she ran out after him and was able to give police a good description. That’s consistent with the news report.
