Throwback Thursday: Tassajara bread 2002

I used to regularly make good, hearty bread. Whole grains, various recipes.

All based on recipes from the classic Tassajara Bread Book. I still love the process of mixing and then kneading bread dough over several cycles before baking. It’s so tactile…far superior to using a machine.

Here’s an example from 2002.

Yumm, can I have the crusty heel? The grandchildren used to try to be first at grandmas on Sat. Bread baking morning.

Totally unrelated, but in light of your “quite a hike” comment the other day: The featured story on the SB website about a potential new rubbish collection fee utilizes a photo apparently lifted at random from the web and not taken in Hawaii, depicting an abandoned home with a pile of discarded bulky items at the curb — none of which has anything to do with a new fee for regular rubbish collection in Honolulu.
Has the SB really cut the photo staff that much?
It may seem manini, but fake news is a slippery slope. This is a really bad precedent. And it’s just really, really lame.
