Still waiting…

Weather radar shows there’s a band of rain coming towards us from the east, not too far away by the looks of it.

Here’s the view from Waialae Beach Park about dawn this morning.

The storm was still to come.

Meanwhile, I have an appointment for an interview late this morning at the local Customs and Border Protection office at Honolulu Airport, part of the application for Trusted Traveler status. This speeds up the airport security screening process domestically (PreCheck) and returning through US customs on international flights. The appointment was made about a month ago, and was among the first available slots. I don’t really want to reschedule, which would require putting the interview off for another month or so, but in light of the announcements of other government office closings, and with a close eye on the hurricane forecasts, I called the office to check whether it would be business as usual there today.

I fully expected to be encouraged to reschedule. But not so fast. I was told they’ll have a full schedule of interviews today. Sort of like the postal service?

“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night [nor inconvenient hurricane] stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”

So despite the weather, I’ll be driving to the airport in a few hours. Hopefully I’ll make it there and back.
