It only took a minute to play out in typical fashion.
Three cats seem to be minding their own business. Then Romeo spots Ms. Annie and wanders over to investigate. When he gets near her, he approaches, putting his head down so that she can acknowledge his #1 Cat position and give his head a quick lick. She declines. Suddenly, it’s all paws and claws. Well, to be honest, not too many claws, just enough to make a point. Romeo backs off. All attempt to regain their composure. Duke looks up and seems to say, “I’m just an innocent bystander!”
And so it goes. A typical moment in a typical day in our feline household.

One of “my” cats alternately licks and nuzzles or boxes her daughter (who is 13 yrs). The daughter sometimes returns (and never initiates) the jabs, more often she returns the nuzzles and ear licks. It’s clear they love each other all these years.
