Hilo’s Banyan Drive is quite aptly named. The winding street along the bayfront is lined with nearly century-old trees, most named in honor of public figures of the early 20th century.

But there’s one next door, in the Liliuokalani Park and Gardens, that is truly a wonder. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any identifying information about this tree. Hopefully someone out there can fill us in on its story.

Notice the two people walking under the tree. That gives you a better sense of just how large this old tree really is.
