Throwback Thursday: In an apartment not far away…

I’m guessing this was taken sometime around 1971. Graduate student reading for a political science class, long since forgotten.

I’m in the living room of our apartment on the 4th floor of what was then known as the Circle Jade apartments on 9th Avenue in Kaimuki. We lived there until we were displaced when the building went condo after the building’s owner, Dr. Dai Yen Chang, died and his family chose to sell. As I recall, our rent for the two-bedroom apartment was $190 per month.

In the background, my Sony reel-to-reel tape recorder with attached speakers. I had a radio tuner hooked up to it, along with a turntable, and it was our music center. That was real high tech!

And joining me are our first two cats, Windfola and Emma. Two very spoiled gray tiger cats.
