We’ll be in transit from Vancouver back to Honolulu pretty much all day today.
We’re waiting for our flight to San Francisco, and then, after a layover of a couple of hours, we fly home. With any luck, we’ll arrive more or less on time.
We had a relaxing week at the Wedgewood Hotel right in downtown Vancouver. It’s a small, boutique hotel. We had stayed there once or twice years ago, and found a very good deal back when we booked this vacation more than six months ago. It’s one of those places where the staff are all well trained to make you feel welcome, and at home. It lacked some amenities—no ice machine down the hall, for example. But they made up for it by having someone come by every afternoon to personally deliver a large scoop of ice into a waiting ice bucket. Later, someone else knocked politely in order to deliver a couple of bottles of water and a pair of freshly baked cookies. Wanda, our server at breakfast most mornings, quickly learned that we have cats and shared news and photos of her pair.
It rained most of the week. Even more rain than usual, according to news reports.
Poke seemed to be very much in vogue. Lots of small spots claiming the freshest and best poke bowls, one with wraps that they dubbed Pokerrito< ./a>
Downtown sidewalks were busy seven days a week, even after sundown (and the sun went down around 4:15 p.m., which we found a bit disorienting).
Anyway, we mainly wandered aimlessly, spent time with friends, read a lot, fussed over where to eat next, and generally just enjoyed a relaxing time. We failed to follow our list of “must do while in Vancouver” things, but somehow filled the days while there.
At this point, we’re anxious to get home for a low key feline welcome.

I remember seeing a beautiful atrium in Vancouver back in the 70’s, but have since learned it burnt down. Also, had a fantastic multicourse Chinese dinner there (don’t remember the eatery it was also back in the 70’s) but read that Vancouver has the best Chinese food in North America.
