It was October 1, 1955 when Cub Scout Pack 116 held its first meeting at Kahala Elementary School, which as I recall opened just the year before.
I was in Den 1, and my mother initially served as a Den Mother.
We met in a classroom, proud parents filling the seats, and lined up along the windows. Some of us had our brand new uniforms. Others hadn’t received theirs yet.
The lineup, from left to right: My mom, Helen Lind. I’m next to her, looking to my left, then there’s Doug Fisher, whose family lived on Kahala Avenue up near Royal Place. I don’t remember the next person, then Chad Dunstan, who lived up at the end of our street in a property that eventually became part of the Chris Hemmeter estate. Chad died in 1986 of a brain hemorrhage. I’m unsure of the next person, then there’s my longtime friend, Larry Olney (who intends to visit us in Honolulu later this year), and on the end, David Gregg, who lived up our street a block or so in the other direction from Chad. I lost track of David when his family moved back to California.
