Christmas, 1958, in the living room of our home in Kahala. My parents, and my sister, Bonnie. An 11 year old Ian. And a bit of our Christmas tree.
Here’s a question that came up last night. What happened to tinsel? Everyone used to hang tinsel on their trees. When did it go out of style?

Merry, merry to Kahala fr Moiliili on a blustery Christmas Day ????
Funny, I was just thinking about that last night.
Tinsel is alive and well in Florida on my pink Christmas tree! I don’t like artificial trees, as the natural way is the way to go but hey, when in Florida do as the natives!
Remember when there was lead n silver in it 60s-70s? Back then everyone had a real tree. Tinsel on a a fake tree dont work cuz it is hard to remove and is not all sparkly the next year. Cats and vacuums eat it making both sick and broken. Target sells it.
Oh they still have it but it’s really silver painted plastic strips. Tinsel is always in fashion along with popcorn garlands for this boomer. What I can’t stand is that metallic garland people drape on the tree (you can’t see the ornaments!). I miss those big round lights they had in the 50’s, they have tried to recreate them but the ones I’ve seen miss the mark.
Tinsel went out of style when the City made a rule that they would no longer pick up trees in the green waste with tinsel on them. Unless you want to spend an hour picking it off, better not to put any on in the first place.
