Morning mynah

This is one of a pair of mynah birds that I’ve been getting to know in recent months. One is a bit shy, this one is pretty bold.

This morning after our walk to the beach, I dug out a longer lens for a few closeups.

These seem to be very smart birds.

    Incredibly smart birds!

I have two that wait for me to get home each day over the last 6 years or so when we started leaving some food out for the neighborhood birds. I noticed this one day as I pulled into the drive way. From my drivers side mirror I saw the two running after the car.

Shortly after this discovery, the original male passed away. The female stayed and brought a new mate along. She showed him the ropes so to speak, and although he isn’t as brave as the original male, he sticks around cautiously when I come out of the house.

They often hear us in the kitchen and will start squawking at us through the window to get our attention. There are was also a red and white cardinal that would dart back and forth in front of me to get my attention as well.

Observing the birds in my neighborhood and taking photos of them has become a hobby of sorts…

We have a group of regular Mynahs too. They seem to be quite territorial and have advanced communication skills including a very distinct “cat alert” call. On several occasions, I have observed a squadron of them harassing passing cats. Very smart indeed!
