Well, with a lot of time on my hands these days, I’ve been wandering through old scanned photos.
Here’s one of my parents on Kahala beach taken about 1941, with that familiar view of Koko Head and Koko Crater in the distance. At the time, they were renting a house on Kealaolu Avenue, about a block mauka from the house they would buy a couple of years later, where they lived until the end of their long lives.
It’s pretty much the same view are greeted by most mornings, although we usually walk on the other side of Waialae Beach Park towards the hotel and golf course. The golf course was already there in 1941, although in a different configuration, and it still shared the area with dairy cows.
