Be prepared, here comes Feline Friday!

It’s your weekly peek behind the scenes of our feline-centric household.

Last Friday, Duke had a glucose “crash” in which his blood glucose level went down to dangerous levels. So for the past week, I’ve dialed down the amount of insulin in his twice-daily shots and he seems to be doing okay.

Annie is still doing okay. It’s been over three months since the kidney stone attack that almost killed her. We still have to give her subcutaneous fluids once a day. She now submits without a fuss when she sees me coming with the bag, needle in hand. And it takes only two minutes or less to get the requisite amount into her. It took me a while to get comfortable sticking the needle through the tough skin on the back of her neck in order to get the fluid flowing, but now Annie and I are both okay with it.

And Romeo…His appetite has been a bit down. I may give him some of the appetite stimulant that we have for Annie. It’s worth the experiment, I think.

And so it goes. Without further ado, here come the cats!

Ian: we have two cats that we keep our eye on for signs of distress or injury even though they are kept in the house. Would you be able to tell every cat lover in an article how you knew Duke had diabetes?

As I recall, our cat was peeing a lot more than usual. He may have lost a lot of weight, also, but I’m not sure, it was some time ago.
