Just a quick follow-up on those character references

Just a quick follow-up to yesterday’s post about the motion by defense attorneys for Honolulu businessman and alleged criminal gang leader, Michael Miske, to obtain his release pending trial. The motion was accompanied by several letters attesting to Miske’s character.

One letter of support was signed by Angela Varnadore, who described Miske as her “dear friend.” She offered up glowing words of praise.

She did disclose Miske had given her a job when she was 23 years old and newly arrived in the islands.

Her letter did not mention that she served as marketing director for Miske’s M Nightclub, where she promoted the venue for five years beginning in September 2011.

She was featured in an August 2013 Hawaii Business magazine profile of the business.

During the period she was employed to market Miske’s club, there were several highly publicized cases in which Miske and his employees were accused of viciously beating patrons of the club. Several lawsuits were settled out of court, and Miske still faces a repeatedly-postponed trial in state court on felony assault charges stemming from a December 2012 incident.

Her employment also included the period where Miske allegedly paid to have his son’s best friend killed because Miske blamed him for the traffic accident that led to his son’s death.

Her letter addressed “to whom it may concern” was dated September 5, 2018.

To Ms. Varnadore’s credit, she has since graduated from the University of Florida and is pursuing graduate work in biotechnology, according to her profile on LinkedIn.com.
