She’s discovered catnip, and other mid-week cat updates

Well, we’ve finally decided what name should be bestowed upon The-Cat-Currently-Known-as-Cali.

We’ve decided on Kaliko, which is simply the Hawaiian language version of calico, or Kali for short.

So she won’t notice the shift from Cali to Kali, since she doesn’t know how to spell anyway.

And there’s other progress to report.

Kali spent part of last night on her second exploration of our house, starting a little before 3 a.m. This time she had over an hour to wander through the house, and then another 20-30 minutes after I opened the door and let her in to the bedroom, where Romeo was still stretched out between us in our bed. Despite the pitter-patter of soft paws circling the bedroom, under or around everything, Romeo stayed calm and detached. Until she jumped up on a window sill within his field of view, that is. At that he was up, awake, and considering whether to give chase. I decided it was a good time to end the adventure for the time being. So she was trundled back to her safe room, and Romeo tried his best to get back to sleep.

And then this afternoon–several hours into Day 13 since was brought Kali home to join the household–she had her first real catnip experience. I had tried before, but she was too distracted. Now that she’s settled down quite a bit, we tried again. Meda refilled one of our catnip mice, and it turned out to be a hit, as you can see!

Why do you assume that cats can’t spell? It may be that they just don’t choose to be bothered correcting human errors. On balance, I think can’t be bothered is more likely than can’t spell.
