A month after Kali joined the household, she and Romeo are still negotiating the “final mile” of their relationship.
Thursday late afternoon had two significant moments. The first seems like a small thing. I got them to eat within sight of each other for the first time. By “eat” I mean out of a dish, with dinner served, not just a few treats. Kali had to watch Romeo for some time before finally starting to nibble on her own serving. Then they both held their positions and ate quietly without incident.
Then there was a second breakthrough of sorts. Kali was in the living room, behind that little end table next to the door into the hall, that in turn leads to her “safe” room. From there, she could be the gatekeeper, deciding whether to let Romeo slip back into the living room from where he was waiting in the hall.
He moved slowly. She waited, ready to pounce and slash if necessary to defend herself, or merely to clearly display her own “Caution Slow” signal.
She waited. I waited. Romeo waited. And then she let him pass.
Yes! Another small but important moment.

Did Romeo actually even hang out in that room before or has he become a regular since Kali’s arrival? He seems to want to be buds, for real.
Glad to see things progress!!
