Feline Friday: Just two months since Bessie’s arrival

It was a good week.

Over the course of the week, I caught two interactions that show how well all our cats are now getting along. It’s only been two months since Bessie arrived, but she’s managed to quickly become one of the gang, and they’ve now fully accepted her, as you’ll see.

The first sequence. Bessie has found a wonderful place in a little end table that sits between two chairs where Meda and I watch television. It’s a spot where she can pretend to be hidden while obviously remaining close to all the action.

One day Bessie and Kali took up positions close to each other and started playing. Of course, I had to run and grab a camera. The photos tell the story.

And on another afternoon, I walked into our living room and found all four cats together enjoying the sun. Kali was snuggled up with Romeo, the 20-something oldster, while Bessie was sprawled out next to Kinikini. No bickering, no apparently jockeying for position. Just the four cats taking in the sun.

And the best was thing was that Kali started licking Romeo, providing an abbreviated cat bath. At risk of anthropomorphising, it looked like Kali was comforting Romeo, who we now consider in the cat equivalent of hospice care. And he enjoyed every minute of it.

Oh my goodness…tears to the eyes seeing Kali being so attentive to Romeo. What a sweet girl she is. Great shots and memories for you, Ian!
