Sale of Miske property in Hawaii Kai completed

A home on Kumukahi Place in Hawaii Kai, which was purchased at the end of 2019 by former Honolulu business owner and alleged criminal gang leader Michael J. Miske, Jr., was sold earlier this month, real estate records show.

The sale to Island Equity Real Estate LLC was recorded on February 16. A warranty deed was signed by Maydeen Stancil, Miske’s mother, pursuant to a Power of Attorney dated August 12, 2020. Signing for Island Equity Real Estate was Ho Dinh, identified as the LLC’s sole member.

The selling price was not listed, but based on a reported conveyance tax of $7,400, it appears the sale price was $1,850,000.

It had been listed for sale in as-is condition with an asking price of $1,650,000, real estate records show. Miske paid $1.4 million in 2019 when he purchased the property in a foreclosure auction.

Federal Magistrate Judge Kenneth Mansfield signed an order last month allowing the sale of the 4 bedroom, 3 bath marina-front home, which had been identified as the target of a future forfeiture action by the federal government at the time of his indictment. However, Miske’s attorneys and the government agreed a sale would best protect the value of the home, and therefore would be in the best interest of all parties.

All proceeds from the sale are to be paid to the US Marshals Service, and deposited into the Department of Justice Seized Asset Deposit Fund pending trial and resolution of the government’s forfeiture request.

Island Equity Real Estate LLC was registered to do business in October 2018, according to state business registration records, with Ho Dinh named as its only member.

The company is a member and serves as agent for six other LLCs apparently created for the purpose of investing in and flipping residential real estate, including five properties in Honolulu and one in Poipu on Kauai.

Miske still owns four properties with a total tax appraised value of $9.2 million. The government has previously serviced notice it will seek forfeiture of two of these properties–his oceanfront, $6 million Portlock mansion, and a home on Paokano Loop in Kailua–if he is convicted.

Wonder if there is any cash in the walls or in backyard? Would be like buying a foreclosed storage unit and hoping for treasure…
