Breaking news: Another Miske co-defendant decides to plead guilty

A notice from Honolulu’s Federal District Court this morning announced a “change of plea” hearing for Lance Bermudez early on the morning of September 7.

This means that Bermudez will be pleading guilty as part of a deal with prosecutors. Plea deals with other defendants have involved their agreement to cooperate with prosecutors and testify against Miske and others in exchangei for prosecutors agreement to drop certain charges they were facing.

Bermudez will be the sixth of Miske’s 10 original co-defendants to plead guilty.

In a post here earlier this morning, I had speculated that a guilty plea was in the works for Bermudez after his name disappeared from the online Federal Inmate Locator.

Bermudez had a reputation as a “shooter,” and allegedly participated in a number of crimes along with others affiliated with what prosecutors refer to as the Miske Enterprise.

Some of Bermudez’ past is recounted in an earlier story published at Civil Beat, “Miske Case Weaves Together Disparate Strands Of Past Crimes.”

Additional information was provided by prosecutors in a July 2020 legal filing requesting that Bermudez be held without bail pending trial in the case.

See: “Miske has been in federal detention for 25 months since his arrest in July 2020

I take no joy in locking these guys for years and years. I think of the Windward communities where many of them came from. Wish they could have a restorative program where they work to pay back the harm they did to their communities.

No. The public is well-served by locking these dangerous predators up for as long as possible, and no need feel bad for them. They knew what they were doing. Save your sympathy for people who work hard every day and don’t prey on others.

Barry, your obviously not a family member of any of the victims. What public price covers homicide? Not to mention numerous other charges.
If the big fish want to cut a deal and take out the uplink, go ahead. Implicate all the Big Uncles and players in a Federal Plea Agreement.
We’re all ears. Take it all the way to the top.
If you notice the illegal drug industry, just keeps humming along and building sales, without skipping a beat.
