Saturday was tough.
We said goodbye to Cleo yesterday morning after another blood test to check whether her kidney issues were clearing up. They were not.
Actually, It was her 4th test over the course of about a month, and while we kept hoping for improvement, each test showed her condition was worsening. Yesterday’s results were “terrible,” significantly worse than just a week ago. More measures of kidney functioning were literally off the charts, beyond the scale of their equipment. Our vet, Ann Sakamoto, just shook her head and indicated there really wasn’t a choice. She said that while she does not make decisions just on the numbers, these test results just reaffirmed our observations of Cleo’s behavior, lack of appetite, uncomfortable posture, lethargy, etc.
It was a sad ending to this story. But she had gained a name, a place in our house, and we did what we could to make the end of her short life comfortable. So it is what it is.

I am oh so saddened to hear the news about Little Cleo this morning – but really, you handed her a very happy ending to her short life on this plane – so much sweeter in your care than had she been forced to stay “on the street”. I am very sorry for your loss – sending my aloha Ian and Meda.
Aww, Ann Sakamoto is our vet too and I know how knowledgeable and practical she is (not to mention empathetic and compassionate). Sorry for your loss, but as Rebecca in Austin said, while it is sad news on Cleo, you folks gave Cleo a lot of happiness and comfort in her short life.
So very sorry. I was rooting for Cleo. She seemed to have chosen you rather than the reverse.
But you did the kind, responsible thing. As said above, at least she had a loving home in her last days.

That’s a real tear-jerker. So sorry, Ian & Meda. You tried your best though and at least she didn’t die slowly on the street. She seems to have made your home her own during her last days. thank you, and well done.

Condolences on the loss of Cleo. It’s hard to say goodbye to a beloved pet even if it’s the kindest thing to do.
I’m glad that she decided to spend her time with you & Meda.
Cats know things and she chose to spend her limited time with people who love animals.

Ian you and Meda gave Cleo comfort and hope in her final days. I’m sure that’s what this little cat saw in the two of you and why she came into your lives. I thank the both of you for caring for her.
