About the Occupied Forces Hawaii Army “warship”

A question was left several days ago as a comment on an unrelated blog. I blocked the comment, which as a result was not displayed.

The question was simple, if you recall my article last April that described the “warship” of the group known as Occupied Forces Hawaii Army, under the command of a man calling himself “Colonel Sam Lilikoi.”

The reader asked:

Is it true that DLNR finally impounded Colonel Cuckoo’s dilapidated “warship” for nonpayment of mooring fees?

If the comment had been accompanied by a valid email address, I would have responded directly.

But there was no associated email provided, so I’m taking the liberty of sharing my reply here.

I sent a query to the communications office of the Department of Land and Natural Resources and received a prompt response this morning from Dan Dennison, the department’s senior communications manager.

“We checked with both our boating and enforcement divisions and both report they have not seized Nelson’s vessel,” Dennison said.

So there you have it. The rumor that the “warship” has been impounded are not true.

If the unlikely event there is information to the contrary floating around in the wild, please leave a comment with details.

By the way, in case you missed the news, Lindsey Kinney, who was arrested and charged with aiming death threats using Instagram, was convicted last week by a federal jury on both charges.

Unfortunately, statements and rantings posted in regard to this subject are not always coherent, consistent, reliable, conclusive, or lasting. Some fleeting footage did recently show the “warship” encountering enforcement officers while underway as the colorful “colonel” began bursting his coconut and making frantic radio calls to the Coast Guard alleging an international incident.
But your inquiry does raise obvious follow-up questions: Has he coughed up the $30,000 in mooring fees that he reportedly owed DLNR and that allegedly resulted in the beheading threats made by his associate, or is this an ongoing saga? What happens when you park your boat and don’t pay your rent, apparently for years? At what point does the state say “enough is enough” and actually do something about that? Or does it just go away if you’re boisterous enough and con some costumed nitwits into backing you up and making a scene?

These clowns claim to be the army of an occupied nation yet whenever reality starts to intrude on their Facebook fantasy they immediately scream for HPD or the Coast Guard.

One of the most interesting things about this group is that the Dadaist political theater they engage in is completely unwitting. That is, they don’t consider their outlandish performances to be silly public theater meant to make a political point and spur discussion, but rather appear to sincerely believe they are some sort of legitimate army engaged in an adversarial conflict with the United States under international law. Like some other Hawaiian sovereignty absurdists who have been around for awhile and polluted public discourse and academic instruction (and mortgage default proceedings) with nonsense, they tend to seize upon any shred of acknowledgment as indisputable “proof” of their righteousness and logically infallibility, and present it to their gullible followers as such.

The proverb “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing” expresses the idea that a small amount of knowledge about a subject can badly mislead people into thinking that they are more expert than they really are, instilling a warped overconfidence that can lead to disaster.

    Ho hum

There were, or perhaps are? Numerous ‘warships’ and one was anchored, DISABLED and sinking off of Kihei boat ramp in Maui waters.

I have lost faith in all journalism…. the facts heavily outweigh the rhetoric.
