Nearly three weeks ago, on Monday, July 3, Civil Beat published my story reporting that Preston Kimoto, a former Kamaaina Termite and Pest Control manager, was in the process of negotiating a plea deal (“The Miske Files: Ex-Kamaaina Termite Manager Is Next In Line To Negotiate A Plea“).
My story wasn’t based on any insider information. Instead, it was a logical conclusion to draw from a series of otherwise unexplained delays in the preliminary court hearing on new charges of witness tampering following Kimoto’s arrest for threatening a witness.
As far as I know, no other media reported the apparent plea negotiations.
On Thursday morning, a notice of a change of plea hearing was filed in federal court.
EO: As to Defendant (6) Preston M. Kimoto, Change of Plea Hearing is set for 7/24/2023 at 10:00 AM in Aha Kupono before CHIEF JUDGE DERRICK K. WATSON. Final Pretrial date of 12/29/2023 and Jury Selection/Trial date of 1/8/2024 as to Defendant Preston M. Kimoto are vacated.
(CHIEF JUDGE DERRICK K. WATSON)
Kimoto becomes the 7th of Mike Miske’s ten original co-defendants to plead guilty and flip on his former associates.
