In the late afternoon, weather permitting, I sit on the back deck for an hour or so feeding the birds and wandering the internet. There are always several bulbuls (two varieties), at least one pair of mynah, several spotted doves, and a pair of Brazilian red-crested cardinals (my favorites). The Java sparrows that come for seed I toss out in the front hard rarely show up here on the deck.
There have been sad times when one of the regular birds was sick for a while and then disappeared. But usually this is an upbeat part of the day.
I look forward to this daily respite.

Have you seen quails in the area? We have seen a couple, several times while walking the neighborhood. They are shy. I’ve seen them on Big Island but not on O’ahu till now.
Maui has a population of Gray Francolin, which are now common in Wailea. Perhaps that’s what you could be seeing here.
Those are really exceptional photos, Ian.
Yes, they are! That’s quite an assortment of birds.
