I couldn’t avoid the many online reminders that it is the 56th anniversary of the first manned moon landing on July 20, 1969. It?s also a reminder that we have a similar anniversary coming up in a few weeks.
In July 1969, Meda and I were camped out in my sister and brother-in-law?s home on Loma Verde Avenue in Palo Alto, where we spent the summer. We were getting married in a few weeks and then flying to Hawaii to start graduate school at the University of Hawaii. And we all gathered around my sister?s small portable television to watch the broadcast of the grainy video broadcast from the surface of the moon. I had the good sense to snap a photo.
I?ve said it before, but it deserves repeating.
How time flies!

Presence of mind indeed! I was ten years old at the time- we were living in a house at Mariner’s Cove in Hawaii Kai and my sister and I were transfixed on the TV. Every time the words “Live From The Moon” scrolled across we all squealed with excited amazement!
I was a 24 year old Wall Street Journal Copy Editor at a Madrid hotel on a European vacation. It was sweltering hot.
Love this photo! That TV is classic. Harkens back to a simpler time. I was one year old. Amazing to think about how much has changed in our lifetimes.
