I ran into this one today in one of my photo archives.
It’s one of those condos adjacent to Iolani School.
But which one? I’m not sure.
Perhaps the Royal Iolani, but I’m not familiar enough with the buildings to tell.
So help me out–What building is this under construction nearly 50 years ago?

Hi Ian,
Could be one of several tall buildings now in the area. I couldn’t attach the map, but it could be Iolani Court Plaza or Regency Tower, which are on Date St. The two tall towers close to Iolani School are the Royal Iolani, but I suspect they came up later.
Thanks,
Walter
Regency Tower – looks to be.
I thought the foreground is the corner on campus with the sports complex under construction on the right, lol. lots of round white streetlamps and Ian’s white Porsche slammed up against the fence. pure conjecture though
The Contessa. Heard it was haunted.
Looks like this one.

The Contessa? near the Hawaiian Humane Society
Judging from shape and height, could be Iolani Court Plaza. Says built in 1980, but that would be the pau date, so construction likely started in late 70s. http://www.hicondos.com/hawaii-Condos/Iolani-Court-Plaza.asp
Looks like regency tower.
It is not the Royal Iolani. The Royal Iolani has 4 main columns while there are 6 of 7 in your photo, (checked by Google Earth.). Also the Royal Iolani towers are much thicker d from front to back. I lived in the Iolani Tower closest to the school for five years in the early 80’s on the 38th floor in a very large apartment. Rent was $800 /month. Wonderful views of both the ocean and the Koolaus.
Could it be 2525 Date St?
