As promised, here are a few more photos of our overnight visit with friends out in Kaaawa. We lived there for 28 years before moving back last year to the house in Kahala where my sister and I grew up, so we’ve got lots of memories and many friends out there in the country.

We noticed that there are now several properties priced at or over $1 million now listed for sale in Kaaawa. That’s quite a bit higher than when we sold our house a year ago. I don’t know whether any of these have actually sold at that price level, but I guess the rising market is having an impact throughout the island.

Oh, did I mention the dogs? We had to buy some special dog biscuits for our walk this morning, although we actually didn’t see as many of our doggie friends as we normally do.

We had dinner with a friend in Kaaawa on Friday night, and got up early to walk the beach the next morning.

Yes, we miss Kaaawa, although we’re happy being much closer to everything after our move into Honolulu.

Just a couple of photos to share.

That’s Verne in the top photo. He spent a lot of time at sea before retiring in Kaaawa, and for quite a few years he’s been sweeping the parks and fishing areas for discarded cans and bottles. We ran into him Saturday morning at Swanzy Beach Park, a half-filled garbage bag in hand. He now mostly concentrates on cans, which are easier to collect and transport.

And in the photo below, one of the most active Kaaawa fishermen has nets laid out in his garage for mending. The muted colors caught my eye, and I grabbed a quick picture.
