Two images from a lazy Sunday morning in Kaaawa.
The top photo was taken as we reached Swanzy Beach Park around 6 a.m. this morning. The sun was managing to break through some heavy clouds, sending rays of light in several directions. What a great sight for these lucky campers to wake up to.

The photo below shows the erosion along the stretch of beach just a short distance in the Kaneohe direction from the restrooms at Kaaawa Beach Park. As you can see, several feet of sand has gone walkabout. The roots of the coconut and false Kamani trees along the road have been exposed for a couple of years, to one degree or another. But this is about as bad as it has ever been, and it’s looking like this is more than seasonal erosion. I fear these trees will be lost somewhere in the intermediate term. Maybe not this year, but I don’t think they’ll survive much longer. If they do, safety concerns may necessitate their removal.
