Update on the new look

I’m still working out the bugs in this system but, so far, it’s going okay. Some links don’t work for apparently obscure reasons, but….

This also makes it a bit easier to post mid-day updates, but I haven’t decided whether to go down that road. I’ll just see how things work out.

And there’s the question of the ads. My friend Chuck presented his view on blog ads in a recent entry, concluding that “everybody loses”.

The advertiser’s ads are ignored, the blog is cluttered with ads which distract from the content and the “customer” / user / visitor gets another dose of marketing, whether they like it or not.

But one reader yesterday said she appreciates the Amazon ads, which she uses to purchase things and support this site at the same time.

So whether the ads will reappear is another issue I’ll have to sort out soon.

Perhaps because my blog is connected to FM Publications (they rep me) or perhaps because I am in a more lucrative vertical than politics, I have been pulling in decent ad revs on still very modest traffic. Not saying its folding money but it more than covers cost of bandwidth and hosting each month with a little left over to pay my tech/design guys.

I suspect political blogs will rarely get the number of posts/hits as others do. I’m amazed that Stephen Tsai’s Advertiser blog, Warrior Beat, will get hundreds of posts every day.

The political blogs like Volcanic Ash, Capitol Notebook or Akamai Politics are lucky to get ten posts.

I love that you finally have the ability for readers to leave comments. (Although you may still have to work out the kinks.) I’ve always been curious about the thoughts of your “iLind Community.”
