Yesterday morning started on a less than fun note after I wrecked the home wireless network by trying to tweak security settings, but it quickly got better. We enjoyed a green flash as the sun appeared that lasted longer than usual as the sun appeared to slowly pushed through this layer of bright color. And then, as we were on the return walk along the beach, what looked at first like a tennis ball washed up right next to us. I looked, dismissed it, and then looked again. On that second look, I could see sunlight reflecting through it and realized it was a glass ball covered with ocean growth. A green flash and a glass ball on the same morning gave the morning an unexpected lift!

While the Legislature debates sticking UH with the management and maintenance of the stadium, I noticed another contract for electrical repairs requiring a 60% upward adjustement from the initial cost estimate last fall. It’s perhaps just a hint of what’s ahead if the university takes the bait. So far, the UH administration has testified against the transfer.

Students and faculty from the UH Manoa Theater and Dance Program have been at the Capitol for two days urging support for funding to complete planning of an extension to Kennedy Theater, which would give the program the space and facilities it needs to gain accreditation. There’s a lot of talent and energy in this group, and the Legislature would be well served by providing the resources in this area of the arts. They will all be back again this morning to attend the House Finance Committee hearing on the UH budget.
