Security is tight but well organized.
Security here on the floor of the convention is not visible. Nothing like outside in the downtown area. But there are several security perimeters set up around Pepsi Center, and several levels of security screening.
I took a delegates’ shuttle bus from the convention center this afternoon. You needed the proper credential to get on the bus. The bus had its own armed Sheriff on board. We took quite a roundabout route, passing through several layers of security.
When finally delivered somewhere out in the Pepsi Center parking lot, everyone went through metal detectors, bags were searched, etc. In addition, there was a long list of things that could not be brought in. Some of those restrictions are familiar to anyone who flies–no sharp instruments, no knives or weapons, no liquids. Others–no flashlights–were new to me.
It didn’t take long at all to make it through the screening, although I’ve heard of delays at other times of day.
But I think everyone here is supportive of the emphasis on security.

Well I guess it’s so much for covering the protests. Sounds like you can’t be on “both sides” of the fence. If you’re the inside man you’re the man inside.
I read Gary Hooser say in his blog that he didn’t see any protesters… guess their plan is working.
But it sounds great- you’re getting the unprecedented view. Did you catch any pics the Hawai`i delegate being interviewed by Judy Woodruff on PBS? They picked her because she went to school with “the candidate” in 7th grade. You could see delegates in the background apparently disappointed it wasn’t them being interviewed, especially the mucky-mucks.
Hope you got your Ethernet connection. Pic look great.
Oh- I figure you missed the protests Ian so here are some pics of the demonstrations from a friend in Denver.
