After McCain chose Alaska’s governor as his running mate, it suddenly doesn’t seem so far fetched that Lingle might also have been considered. After all, she has a lot more experience than Palin, both local and national. But she probably also has a lot more baggage to be considered and isn’t conservative enough for the current power blocks within the national Republican Party.

A reader suggested that I check out comments being posted at the Wasilla Frontiersman, the local newspaper in the town (pop. 6,700) where Gov. Palin got her political start. Hey, that’s like claiming credit for being mayor of Kaaawa or something!

Anyway, Frontiersman readers (and others) were invited to sound off on her selection.

Comments range from “Stepford Wives” positive to soundly negative. Here are a few of the latter, which suggest what we’ll hear over the next two months.

“I will not vote for someone who doesn’t even think the insurance companies should pay for birth control and who doesn’t agree that women should be paid the same as men for the same job.”

” Unbelievable.

Sen. McCain picks a running mate who does not believe that global warming is man-made.”

“She is a very nice person who is making a pretty good governor but she’s able to make Dan Quale look good.”

“God forbid if something would happen to McCain,she definetly is not qualified to be President of the U.S.A.”
