Thanks to NorthDecoder.com (guess which state this blog is from?) for providing the morning laughs with this link to a dramatic reading of a transcript from a meeting of the Wasilla town council. After this hilarious five minutes, the reality sets in that this is supposed to be the the experience that qualifies the GOP vp candidate to be one short step away from the presidency. OMG!
And the Washington Post has a long story this morning digging into Sarah Palin’s performance as mayor of that small Alaska town. The New York Times weighed in as well.
Palin’s mayoral performance has also come back to bite her at the state legislature, which this week agreed to subpoena her husband and two top staffers in its probe of what’s being called “Troopergate”.
The Alaska Senate Judiciary Committee voted 5-3 to subpoena Todd Palin in the legislative investigation into whether his wife, who is Alaska’s governor, improperly attempted to fire a state trooper who was her former brother-in-law.
The committee also subpoenaed Palin’s chief of staff and deputy chief of staff.
The panel had agreed beforehand however that a subpoena of Sarah Palin herself would not be considered with the understanding she would agree to an interview by the investigator, retired prosecutor Stephen Branchflower.
Under the legislature’s rules, the subpoenas must be approved by Senate President Lyda Green.
Green, like Palin, is a Republican from Wasilla, Alaska, but is a long-time political foe of the governor so is not expected to kill the subpoenas.
And still speaking of Palin, check the tough talk by columnist Mary Mitchell in the Chicago Sun-Times.
Here’s a taste of what she had to say:
Palin’s extreme views on abortion (she once said she would be against her daughter having an abortion even in the case of incest or rape) and her support of abstinence-only programs should make her a laughingstock to feminists.
Instead, she’s a star.
That ought to be enough to make any true feminist sick.
And CQ Politics offers up the transcript of a telephone interview regarding Palin with two Alaska politicians.
And, of course, there was SNL….
It was a very calm morning. Virtually no wind, which left a thick layer of vog on the horizon and resulted in some great muted light as the sun appeared. I had hopes of a possible green flash, but the vog proved to be too thick.
Ms. Wally doesn’t know it yet, but she’s making a road trip to the vet in Kaneohe this afternoon. I was surprised to discover that she it’s been almost three years since she was in for a checkup. So she’s due. Apart from her flea allergy, I think she’s doing pretty good, but I’ll be going for the senior cat exam which includes a blood test to pick up any potential background “issues”.
To tell the truth, Wally does not like going to the vet. So it is going to seem like a very long drive.
