It’s a very wet and windy Saturday morning in Kaaawa and across the island of Oahu, judging from a quick look at Honolulu traffic cams. We don’t often cancel our morning walk down to the beach at dawn, but this is one of those days.

In a legal notice published this week in the Maui News, Mahealani Ventura-Oliver denies that her Hawaiiloa Foundation has any “responsibility for persons who manipulate information shared in free classes.”

The Hawaiiloa Foundation is not affiliated with the “Hawaiian Nation”, or any derivatie thereof, and does not sell bonds and does not participate in mortgage scams.

It’s clear that this is going to take a while to unravel.

I happened upon your website and and wanted you to know how much I enjoyed seeing your old Hawaii photos. I lived in Honolulu from 1956 to 1967 when my father was stationed at Fort Shafter and remember many of the places in your pictures.

He also shared his collection of Hawaii postcard images from Territorial days. There are over 300 images in this collection, and they’re a lot of fun to browse through.

I belatedly learned yesterday that there was a broken link last week to our excursion to Cherokee Street in St. Louis. The bad thing is that I thought this had been fixed earlier, but either I never actually got around to it or, perhaps, I compounded the original mistake. In any case, it really is fixed now. Then another quick meal. A few chicken thighs, browned with onion, garlic, and hot peppers, simmered until tender in white wine and additional water as needed. Cilantro and bananas added for the last 8 minutes or so of cooking. Served with rice, and a side of cherry tomatoes, olives, carrots, and 3-bean salad. Hot sauce to taste. And a bottle of wine. Not a bad pick-up meal.
