There’s a lot of good stuff buried in the past entries here at iLind.net. Vintage photos, various documents, but now lost in the complex back rooms of this decade-old venture.
So I’m trying to figure out how to make as much of this more readily accessible.
I started on an index/directory as a test. This sample is sorted by date, but it would allow me to sort the listing by type (photo, document, etc), by subject, etc.
In any case, I would welcome your comments, suggestions, models (can you point me to other sites that manage to organize similar collections?), etc., etc.

Can you tag them with keywords?
If you are on a Mac, you could use the faces feature of iPhoto to identify people in photos (assuming you yourself can identify them in at least one) and use name tags.

What systems have you already tried? Picasa? Also what are you specifically trying to accomplish? How would you like to see the end result working?
On a more sophisticated level, consider contacting folk at UH Hamilton library. They’ve dealt with archiving other important photo collections.
You might consider putting the whole thing in the clouds by using an online service like scrapblog with which you can integrate photos uploaded to flickr. I’m looking at these alternatives for my own personal/family photo/history preservation project.
