He writes:

When the newspaper trimmed its staff in 2008, I took a buyout and prepared to change careers. But plans changed as I watched the newspaper business implode along with the public service journalism that I devoted my career to. So I have created AtlantaUnfiltered.com to support and promote investigative journalism in Georgia.

There’s just a lot of experimentation out there right now as investigative reporting becomes too expensive or slow paced for much of the over-stretched mainstream media, and individuals and groups committed to in-depth reporting find ways to pick up the slack.

The Voice of San Diego is another one of my other favorites, along with Horsesass.org and Crosscut.com, both up in Seattle.
