Here’s another small batch of photos found among the papers saved by my father, John M. Lind, who was a founding member and first president of the Waikiki Surf Club back in the 1940s. I started to post these earlier in the week and got sidetracked. But better late than never.
Several of these are stamped with dates in 1949, while a couple were taken in 1955. All are from surfing and paddling events held in Waikiki.
There are no notations on this photo, which appears to show a winning team from an unknown competition. With Diamond Head in the background, unblemished by today’s condominium and hotel towers, it’s a classic.
On the far right in the photo is Rabbit Kekai. The tallest of the team, second from left, is Ed Whaley. Both are well-known beachboys of that era.

amazingly fabulously fantastic photos, once again!
Amazing – I knew 2 of these guys – David Kapahulehua (3rd from left); and next to Rabbit is catamaran designer, and one-time trans-pac record holder Rudy Choy who was my father’s best friend during the 1960s. If this photo is 1949 – Rudy would have been about 26.
