Cats are weird

RomeoCats are weird.

Last weekend, Meda insisted that we needed a new comforter cover to replace the torn, stained, and faded one we have been using. The solution was a stop at the Ross Store in Kaneohe, where she could only find a single cover for our “full” size bed. It seems that everyone else in the world sleeps on queen-size, king-size, or aircraft carrier-size beds, while we snuggle into our tiny nest.

In any case, there was a choice of one. And it is dark blue. Not necessarily good news when Mr. Duke, who sheds constantly, sleeps in one corner of the bed, Ms. Kili in another, and Mr. Romeo roams at will.

The weird thing. This comforter has a row of decorative buttons. Somehow those are extremely interesting to cats.

Kili immediately attacked when she saw the buttons. She thought they were a great addition to the collection of cat toys, although she seems to have lost interest after several days. But Romeo insists on sleeping on the buttons. He might select one and just lay his head down on it. Or he drapes himself across several and looks self-satisfied.

In any case, the buttons and the new comforter are just the entry into today’s Feline Friday photo gallery. Just click on Romeo’s picture for more.

I’m a “full” guy, too (altho’ not nearly as tall as you!) and, yes, cats are weird, but that’s part of why we love them (and perhaps why they seem to tolerate us!).

I love the photos of quiet indoor moments but, like someone said last week, the outdoor portraiture, felines in the rough shall we say, are really quite eye catching.

    Unrelated news:

Dec. 4 — A memo sent Thursday night from Mike Fisch, publisher of The Journal News in Westchester, N.Y., revealed the latest round of restructuring at the Gannett-owned newspaper.

The paper will close its printing plant, leading to the elimination of 166 full- and part-time employees in production and packaging.

It’s easy to explain their fascination with the buttons, Ian. They believe the bed is a giant, friendly man’s abdomen.
