Start by chopping an onion.
It’s amazing how many cooking stories could start with that sentence.
Anyway, this is the chronicle of a beef stew I made on Thursday, starting about 4 p.m.
It was a day I worked at home and had the time for a stew.
Just click on the photo to follow along from the first chopped onion to the completed stew.
My only mistake was that I forgot to get the final photos of the stew being served. I guess we just got caught up in the final plating and eating. So I had to take special care to leave the camera in a prominent spot as a reminder when we served up the same stew again on Friday. That worked.
In any case, enjoy!

That stew looks fabulous! But instead of using bottled garlic, you should have minced fresh garlic, yourself.
Anyway, it turned out so colorful and nice. You have inspired me to try my hand at it.
Tonight? I am going to make Thai shrimp curry with brown rice.
I make stew fairly often, usually in the crockpot. But this looks way better that anything I’ve ever made! I’ll refer back to this next time I make some.
ps. I’m way jealous of the cast-iron dutch oven.
Oh, my and yum! Served with a side of kitty.
That pile of onions brings to mind the movie “Julie and Julia”. Highly recommended.
Do you thicken with flour (coating the beef prior to searing) or corn starch (mixing a little in some reserved liquid and then returning the mix to the pot)?
You’re right. I forgot to put that in the description. I did thicken with maybe two teaspoons of corn starch just before serving.
