Group plans sit-in at Gov. Lingle’s office to demand action on restoring Furlough Fridays

Save Our Schools, a group formed to oppose Furlough Fridays, is planning a sit-in at Gov. Lingle’s office on Wednesday afternoon, April 7, starting at 2:30 p.m.

The group says it is going to Lingle’s office with two demands.

1) Linda Lingle herself be present in discussions with HSTA/DOE/BOE

2) Linda Lingle personally commit to resolving the furlough friday crisis by April 12.

In an email yesterday to Lingle, SOS said they are “dismayed by your stunning lack of progress” in resolving the school furlough issue, and “infuriated that you are denying children valuable school days.”

The group called for Lingle to separate her school reform proposals from the issue of restoring Furlough Fridays.

“It is unconscionable that you are now, in the dying days of your governorship, trying to tie the resolution pertaining to Furlough Fridays to your own policy agenda,” the letter said.
