A quick iPad update

Turns out that moving documents back and forth to the iPad is pretty easy after all.

I finally figured out why I was having such a hard time. If you are using the iPad turned in landscape mode in order to use the larger virtual keyboard, the menu in the Pages application is hidden. I spent a long time and finally decided that I couldn’t get to the documents easily.

Then I read another review that mentioned how to find the Pages menu. It’s as simple as switching the iPad back to portrait orientation, where Pages displays its menu.

From there, you can choose to send any Pages document by email, share via iWork.com (an Apple service now in “beta”, or “export” it in Pages, pdf, Word (.doc) format.

Then you sync to your other computer, in my case an older Macbook Pro, and there it is, ready to edit, print, or whatever.

I think there’s probably a way to use Apple’s iDisk (part of their MobileMe service) to move documents, but I haven’t gotten there yet.

Getting documents in and out of the iPad was a big hurdle in terms of functionality. I’m liking the iPad more every day. Well, every day or two, really.

I tested the KeyNote app today and it is actually more awesome than the laptop edition. Also, it connects flawlessly to a VGA projector. It doesn’t project until the go button is pressed in Keynote, meaning that the iPad is “aware” that there is an external projection device.
