I made another trip to the vet last weekend with Duke and Ms. Annie.
Annie was due for her annual check-up, and I was a little concerned because (a) she’s the smallest of our cats, and (b) she has lost some weight recently. Checking her records, she’s dropped from nearly 10 pounds a couple of years ago to just over 8 pounds. Dr. Sakamoto thought Annie looked fine, but wanted a blood test just in case that weight loss was a symptom of something.
Duke, on the other hand, was back for a different type of glucose test, along with a scan to make sure that his diabetes hasn’t impacted other parts of his system.
Well, we got mixed test results. Annie is fine. No red flags in her tests. Duke, on the other hand, is still exhibiting higher glucose levels than we would want to see, despite the gradual step-up in his insulin dose. We started with a dose on the very low end of the range for his weight, and after a series of steps, are now at double that level. Meanwhile, I’m trying to enforce his diet because Dr. Sakamoto would like him to lose another pound before hitting a maintenance weight.
As I mention in the photo caption, Duke’s appearance and behavior are markedly improved. He has much more energy now and is looking reallly good, so we know that we’re making progress. So we just keep plodding ahead.
In any case, click on Duke’s picture for this week’s full Feline Friday photo gallery.

Missing Ms. Kili, looks like you may have to spend more time with her. Thanks. Have a Happy weekend. :~)
