Here’s another snippet of the conversation with my mother when she was at our house in Kaaawa on Thanksgiving.
In this 8-minute segment, describes how Sam Kahanamoku, brother of the legendary Duke Kahanamoku, would accompany several girls when they wanted to go to a popular downtown Honolulu bar while she was attending the University of Hawaii in the early 1930s. She also describes what the Honolulu suburb of Kahala was like at that time, including the hydroponic farm where Sam grew vegetables for millionaire heiress Doris Duke. Your mother mentions a dance studio on Farmers Road. Believe it was called Kaahumanu dance studio; recall my older sister taking hula lessons there as a youngster.
