An interesting thing happened yesterday afternoon.
In the course of about an hour and a half, 13 comments were left on a June 2009 entry concerning door-to-door sales of security systems by Security One, a Utah-based company. That entry was critical of the company on a number of grounds, but each of these comments was singing the company’s praises.
I marked them all as spam, then took a closer look.
The comments were submitted under different names (Marla, Maria, Mia, Riza, Jack, James, Patrick, Shane, Sheila Mae, Kyla, Carmen, Cheska, and Suzet), but each used the same return address linked to the company, and all came from a single IP address.
A further check determined the IP address is assigned to Eastern Telecom Philippines Inc.
So am I to conclude that these attempted damage-control comments were outsourced to the Philippines?

They could all be workers using the same computer.
Ah ha hahahahahaaa! Outsourcing damage control! Gotta love it.
I’m guessing they were probably using a ip proxy or three to mask their origin. Their mistake was to not change proxies in between posts. Chances are the comments are local. Unless… Heck outsourcing seems to be the name of the game these days, so maybe that’s the simplest explanation.
all of those names except Chezka and Suzet are very common Filipino names.
I’m flummoxed, imagine people actually do this and on a year and a half old posting. Amazing. Do you think this is done on other sites? Wow.
