Two questions for you.
First, a friend here in Kaaawa is planning a trip that will take her out of town for several weeks. She asked if I knew of any long term parking facilities serving the Honolulu airport. I had to say that we can’t be away for more than about a week because of the cats, so I really don’t know. So–is there any way for her to save money on parking while out of town? Or is getting a ride to the airport with a friend her only option?
Second, our vet has advised looking into doing our own glucose testing at home, which means getting a glucometer. Does anyone out there have experience with using one of these on a dog or cat? Any suggestions of features that we should be looking for? Any advice appreciated.

Several years ago we used an airport shuttle van we found in the yellow pages. So long ago I don’t remember which one, but it cost much less than a taxi and the service was great. Your friend might want to explore that option.
There used to be a long term parking lot operated then by Budget with rooftop parking over the strip mall nearby. It was a few dollars cheaper every day.
My solution was to park at a relatives home in Honolulu and arrange for them to take & pick me up. When it isn’t convienent for the relative, I arrange thru Oahu Airport Shuttle to pick me up at the airport. The shuttle is much cheaper than taxi and much cheaper than extended airport parking. Two weeks ago we acquired a glucometer and began taking daily glucose readings on our cat. Initially, that process provoked great anxiety in both Kaniba and her caregivers. But now we all have settled into the routine and have calmed down. It’s done quickly, and then Kaniba strolls over to her food dish to have a bite or two.
We are continuing to read discussions on the internet about the accuracy of glucometers and how well their results track the lab tests that our vet does. I will follow up by sending you some helpful articles that I came across.
I just checked Oahu Airport Shuttle. One way from Kaaawa to the airport is $60 for the first person. So $120 roundtrip means I would pay the $11 or $13 a day fee and would drive myself unless I was gone for a 3 weeks or longer.
The airport itself has an uncovered longterm lot that is (I think) $10 day. Next to the lei stands.
Out of curiosity, I wonder how one gets the cat to sit still enough to be pricked and the blood collected for a glucometer, I hate to test my own sugar, can’t imagine for the kitty.
Suggestions for a meter though, we use the One Touch Ultra which uses a very little blood sample compared to other meters. As to cost of the strips though, I saw that accu check is now offering something with the purchase of their meters that allows you to never pay more than $15 for the strips. Then there are the store brands which I have never tried. I do find that for me one touch offers the most accuracy.
